Learn About Mike

Mike Huether makes the most of each God given day and motivates others to do the same. Best known as “Mayor Mike” and “My Man Mike,” he was sworn in as mayor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 17, 2010. Soundly re-elected in 2014, he proved that government can “GET THINGS DONE.” During his tenure, Sioux Falls was recognized as “America’s Next Boomtown” along with numerous other accolades. It was 8 years of tackling issues and seizing opportunities like never witnessed before.

Mike’s leadership and business skills were honed for 25 years at Citibank in South Dakota, New York, and Texas, along with PREMIER Bankcard in Sioux Falls. He left corporate America as an Executive Vice President to capture his dream of public service held since the sixth grade.

Mike and his bride of 35+ years, Cindy, are driven by family and stewardship. They were honored as the United States Tennis Association Family of the Year, and also named “South Dakota’s Tennis Hero” by Tennis magazine. Their daughter, Kylie, her husband David, grandson George and granddaughter Margaret live ten minutes away which can’t be any better.

Mike had a television show called “On the Road with Mike Huether” that brought into view hidden, inspirational stories about life in towns across South Dakota. In his “spare” time, Mike relishes public speaking, develops wildlife habitat, hunts whitetails and pheasants, inspires others to serve and creates special memories, especially as “Grandpa” with George and Margaret.
